The movie Mari explores the inner struggles of a 16-year-old girl living in an extremely conservative, rural environment. She is unable to express her emotions and does not have the tools to understand and deal with her struggles. Her family silently turn their backs on her, and the boy who seemed to care about her disappears. She finds herself alone with her pain and the birds in the henhouse.

The film guides the viewers through different stages of Ágnes's life, where real and surreal pictures and emotions follow each other, leading to the core of the main character's quiet suffering.
